Amazon’s Great Indian Republic Day Sale makes three times higher revenue

Amazon’s Great Indian Republic Day Sale from January 21-23 reaped in three times higher turnover than last year’s during the same period. Mobiles were the highest selling category, apparel came a close second. However, most categories have recorded more than 200 per cent increase as compared to last year’s January sale, as per Amazon.

Most categories saw a growth of up to nine times as compared to their regular run rate. The sale of apparels under Amazon Fashion surpassed the last big sale during Diwali in October 2015. As per the website, all categories showed over 200 per cent increase as compared to last January’s sale. Luggage, apparel, watches and handbags recorded the maximum sale. Jewellery and handbags recorded three times more sales this year as compared to last times sale.

More than 65 per cent of Amazon’s orders come from smaller towns and cities, particularly outside eight top metros. The cities/towns are Pune, Jaipur, Thane, Patna, Surat, Nagpur and so on. The Tier I cities saw an increase two and a half times in the products ordered between January 2015 and 2016.

An intense competition is on among top three e-tailers – Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal. Each of them is offering huge discounts to increase the traffic flow to its own website.
