Flipkart two unit’s revenues rise 39 per cent

The combined revenue of Flipkart’s two main units viz, Flipkart Internet and Flipkart India, have grown 39 per cent. Flipkart Internet runs the e-commerce platform and Flipkart India is the wholesale unit. Flipkart Internet, which earns commissions from the marketplace, saw revenues jump 35 per cent. The trading unit Flipkart India reported a 40 per cent increase in revenues. Both Flipkart Internet and Flipkart India accounted for 80 per cent to 90 per cent of the turnover for Flipkart's Singapore parent unit over the last three financial years. Flipkart India’s expenses for fiscal ’18 ballooned 50 per cent while Flipkart Internet’s expenditure rose by 8.5 per cent.

Flipkart Singapore registers revenues and losses for payments business PhonePe, fashion portal Myntra and logistics unit Ekart. Flipkart has been aggressively investing in expanding its supply chain and payments business over the last 12 months.

Competition in Indian e-commerce space is set to intensify further as both Amazon and Flipkart are unlikely to hold back on spends in their battle for market leadership. Flipkart and Amazon India are expected to spend around 300 million dollars each over three months starting October on marketing, discounts and hiring additional staff. Both firms recently concluded their annual flagship sales.
