Leading marketplace Snapdeal is in the process of setting up four teams under its fashion segment to be based in Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata. Fashion is considered a high margin category and Snapdeal sees around 35 percent of its sales and 55-60 percent of transactions driven by it. The company anticipates the category to generate almost 2 billion dollars (over Rs 17,000 crores) revenue by 2015-16, up from the estimated 600 million dollars (over Rs 3,699 crores) in 2014-15.

While the team for western India is in place with 12 members already on board, the company wants to build the other teams by this month-end. Snapdeal aims to hire 500 employees under these teams.

The platform also partnered with Bangalore Fashion Week recently to sell collections from the 12th edition of the fashion week on its platform. The online portal also presented an exclusive collection of saris at a special fashion show 'Versatile 6 Yards', which saw participation from popular socialites and leading models. The event was also be streamed live on the website through a live event blog accessible on the portal.
