Celebrity fashion designer Anita Dongre was on cloud nine when the Duchess of Cambridge, was presently on a visit to India, wore an outfit designed by her. The Duchess wore a Mughal-inspired coral pink-and-aqua printed dress from Dongre’s Spring/Summer collection.

For Dongre, it means a lot as the world keenly follows the Duchess’ fashion and style. Dongre believes that this would help boost Indian fashion globally, and she on her part has received many queries from across the world. The Duchess was seen in the summery georgette dress as she played a game of cricket with legend Sachin Tendulkar and later met underprivileged children. She had teamed the dress with a pair of beige wedges and Ray Ban Wayfarer black sunglasses. A full-length version of the dress was showcased at Dongre’s show Love Notes at the recently held Lakme Fashion Week.

Mumbai-based Dongre is one of the leading names in Indian fashion. She has dressed Bollywood celebrities from Karishma Kapoor to Sonakshi Sinha as well as founded the labels AND and Global Desi. Known as the queen of pret, Dongre draws her inspiration from embroidery and needlework from the state of Rajasthan. She is now considering opening a boutique in the UAE.

The last few years have seen Indian designers being feted internationally. Bollywood’s favourite designer Manish Malhotra counts Australian singer Kylie Minogue among his list of clientele. Rohit Bal is known to dress Hollywood stars such as Uma Thurman and Naomi Campbell.
