With the ready-to-wear shows drawing to a close for another season in New York, London, Milan and Paris, the most fashion-forward Fall/Winter 2015-16 apparel shapes have been revealed by the Trendstop catwalk experts. Directional trends update womenswear across all sectors, from Coats & Jackets, Knitwear and Dresses & Skirts to Suits, Pants & Trousers and Tops & Shirts, refreshing wardrobe staples with new cuts and contemporary styles. In Coats & Jackets, we see key developments emerge with longline shapes and modern hybrids, together with a cosy texture focus. This week, Fashion United readers can discover The Layered Sports Coat, a must-have outerwear trend for F/W15.

The Layered Sports Coat

Offering a fresh winter-conscious twist on a casual style, we see sports coats doubled-up with layered silhouettes this season. Complementing the shape, longer-proportioned designs create an everyday city feel with a range of new fabrications, such as faux denim, brushed surfaces or hardy coated wovens. These materials are juxtaposed with the padded sports layer for a tactile interest, while contrasts of print and plain can be used to add an extra statement.

This alternate interpretation of the Layered Sports Coat trend demonstrates a focus on technical fabrics, revamping outerwear shapes with windproof properties or padding. A sports-inspired interest can be seen across detailing like hoods and collars, while detachable layers allow the wearer to customise their coat to suit their look – this aspect also adds a transseasonal appeal.
