The second week of January has ushered in the start of the new trade show season, as directional designers and brands prepare to showcase their Fall/Winter 2016-17 collections at international industry events. Kicking off the 2016 trade show calendar is Pitti Uomo, an influential fashion and lifestyle platform covering the latest in clothing, footwear and accessory ranges for men. Currently taking place at the Fortezza da Basso in Florence, the show's 89th edition is themed 'Pitti Generations', exploring the coexistence of different generations in modern menswear styles. The experts at Trendstop.com will be hard at work this season, reporting on all the latest trends emerging at each key trade show across the globe. This week, they present FashionUnited readers with three inspiring menswear directions analysed at Pitti Uomo Fall/Winter 2016-17.

Distressed Gent

Formal styles are treated with a scruffy, dishevelled aesthetic this season, making for a look of the Distressed Gent. Across apparel and accessories alike, we see a play on muted colourways, mottled surfaces and worn-in or damaged detailing. Highlights include torn trilby hats, grungy textured coats and battered leather satchels.

Fur on the Inside

Ideal for cold weather styling, casual jackets evolve for winter with a play on textured detailing. Bombers, parkas and outdoors styles combine woven or technical fabric exteriors with plush fur linings for added warmth. Contrast shades highlight the material mix design, while multicoloured patterning makes for a bolder statement.

Playfully Seventies

As 70's inspirations continue to influence modern menswear, designers experiment with a more playful approach to retro-look designs for Fall/Winter 2016-17. Neutral check blazers are revisited with quirky academic appliqué, while knitted sweaters make a statement with fun patterns. Formal brogues stand out with colour pop detailing.
