Leading online marketplace Snapdeal aims to bring more number of women sellers on board and expects them to account for about half of its merchant base by the end of this year. Currently, about 30 percent of Snapdeal's sellers are women entrepreneurs.

The company claims that since online medium offers flexible working hours and work from home option, women entrepreneurs can balance their businesses and family life with ease. Snapdeal has women sellers operating across categories like jewellery, apparel and home decoration and furnishing. The platform has over 60,000 sellers on board and expects to cross the one million mark soon. The firm currently offers over 5 million products across 500 diverse categories and reaches out to over 40 million people.

The company recently tied up with India Post to boost products of Varanasi weavers. The post offices will act as a dropping point for sellers, and India Post will deliver the goods to the buyers. The company also plans to set up an 'India Post' store to feature the associated sellers exclusively and also share its expertise in fashion and marketing with weavers to help them create designs and products, which will appeal to the customers across the country.
