Trendstop brings FashionUnited readers an insight into the Pre-Fall womenswear collections for 2022.

The Pre-Fall women’s collections showcased fashion designing its way out of lockdown. Playful subversion, the art of dressing up and attention to detail that focused on frivolity introduced a renewed sense of optimism without losing sight of important industry topics such as sustainability, feminism, and challenging gender norms.

Chloe

Values based on empathy, collaboration, and low impact underscore Gabriela Hearst’s vision for the Chloe label. For Pre-Fall, the collection boasted 70% lower impact product and bohemian handcrafting-infused silhouettes inspired by Chloe designers past. Boot-cut pants, the 70’s era pantsuits of Stella McCartney and voluminous Phoebe Philo-inspired sleeves were finished with Hearst’s whipstitching and macrame detailing.

Proenza Schouler

Emergence from lockdown saw Proenza Shouler bring playful touches back to Pre-Fall. Ostrich feathers, beaded crochet, and animal print introduced a move towards dressier looks as their clientele return to the outside world. The overtly masculine, oversized tailoring of previous seasons gave way to a more streamlined silhouette of slim pants and figure-hugging jackets, but ease of wear and comfort was never far away in the fluid fabrics, loosely cut shirt dresses and soft, evening ready knits.

Christian Dior

Maria Grazia Chiuri also brought out Dior’s playful side but with a rebellious streak that celebrated the strong, unconventional women who inspired the house’s founder. Biker, punk, and school days yielded reconfigured uniforms, ties, tartan, and grunge-era stripes and layering whilst androgynous retro sportswear pieces and cycling shorts introduced elements of genderless dressing into Dior’s often classically feminine codes.
