Flipkart ropes in Saikiran Krishnamurthy as COO

Leading marketplace Flipkart is taking various measures to remain ahead in competition while turning profitable. As a part of its growth strategy, the company has roped in McKinsey director Saikiran Krishnamurthy as Chief Operating Officer of its commerce division.

The eretail major has been filling senior level positions to strengthen its hold over the market. The company is said to have set aside an additional 2.5 percent of its capital to build employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) as it is looking for people as a part of its senior leadership team. The top level rejig saw Flipkart co-founder and group CEO Sachin Bansal taking on new initiatives, and co-founder Binny Bansal moving to overseeing supply chain and logistics. Mukesh Bansal was made CEO of commerce, to drive Flipkart's revenue and oversee day-to-day running of the company.

Krishnamurthy, who had been working with Flipkart as a consultant for the past six months, previously headed consultancy firm McKinsey's chemicals practice group in India. The IIM-Ahmedabad graduate, who was with McKinsey for more than 15 years, also led its operations practice and implementation in India.
