While it may exit the Karnataka market over recent VAT issues, world\'s largest online retailer Amazon is planning to expand its infrastructure in India with its second \'fulfilment\' centre in Gujarat. This is a part of the company\'s 2 billion dollars (over 12,200 crores) investment plan for the country. The e-retailer is in talks with the Gujarat government for setting up the centre next year.

A leading player in India’s burgeoning e-commerce space today, the company already has a network of seven centres on the outskirts of Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Tauru (outskirts of Gurgaon). The new centre to be developed in Gujarat is expected to benefit the state in terms of providing investment, employment, enhanced revenues as well as scaling up of small and medium size businesses.

Amazon recently announced that it plans to invest another 2 billion dollars (over 12,000 crores) in India to aggressively take on the competition. The company, since the launch of its official Indian website in June last year is giving tough competition with several initiatives like low prices, same-day delivery, wide choice of product categories and investing in advertising and marketing activities.
