The Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers' Co-operative Society, popularly known as Co-optex, established in 1935, has a long and rich tradition in handlooms. With e-commerce gaining pace, even Co-optex, through its platform Cooptex.gov.in has managed to sell products worth Rs 2.36 lakh in the last two months. Cotton saris were the highest selling ones among all the other varieties on offer.

About 2.54 lakh weavers are part of Co-optex, retailing products through more than 200 showrooms, including 60 outlets outside Tamil Nadu. Now the society aims to use technology to reach out to a rising number of customers looking for authentic Indian weaves. It is witnessing a rise in orders for saris and shirts from within India and abroad.

The company also interacts with its target customers through its Facebook page. Another shopping platform introduced by Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation, or Poompuhar, on tnpoompuhar.org has also been received well by customers. It showcases around 1,600 items, including bronze, brass, wood and stone carvings.
