After Flipkart’s ‘Big Billion Sale’ could not handle the rush with technical glitches disappointing several customers, its fashion portal Myntra too has received backlash on social networking sites for its ‘End of Reason Sale’ held on January 3 and 4. Several customers, who placed orders on the website during these two days were miffed with service and product availability issues. Many orders also got canceled even after the payment deductions. Customers were also unhappy with the poor service on Myntra’s mobile app.

Experts point out that before really posing themselves as rivals to biggies like Amazon and Alibaba, Indian e-commerce players must learn to satisfy the end user by building their technological, warehousing, infrastructure, logistics and operations. If they don’t learn the lessons on time, they would find it difficult to stand against the likes of Alibaba when the Chinese company starts selling here.

They opine that the first and foremost thing that these e-retailers will have to look into is fixing the technical inefficiencies. Despite planning such mega-events for months, the platforms were not able to handle the huge number of customers. While such technical hiccups are not uncommon, if the companies do not want to lose their reputation and customers, they must act fast.
