Myntra will be the first to be profitable in all of e-commerce: Mukesh Bansal

Fashion e-portal Myntra is the only large scale e-commerce firm in India that is profitable at unit level. With such progress, Myntra will in all likelihood be the first company to be profitable in all of e-commerce in the next 12-18 months.

Founder Mukesh Bansal is confident of Mynra scripting a success story. He believes that all the metrics are improving steadily. He says that their burn as a percentage of revenue is steadily going down and their gross profit percentage per order is improving. Also, he is confident that profitability for Flipkart is also happening, it’s not too far. However, he feels that they could have been profitable this year too but in that case, they would have had to give up on growth. Two years, 100 per cent focus would be on growth and profitability but recently, the focus is divided. As a result the focus would be more on profitability and less on growth.

Bansal is now done with active operating role, even though he continues to be involved in both Flipkart and Myntra as shareholder and advisor. He is now looking at different industries such as healthcare, education and financial services. He doesn’t mind getting into any one as long as it has scale.
