Snapdeal inks MoU with Puducherry govt to promote handicrafts

Leading marketplaces Snapdeal has signed an MoU with the Puducherry State Coop Handloom and Handicrafts Federation, to offer technical and operational support to local artisans, so that their products could reach large customer base under the brand name 'Artisanat' via Snapdeal.

Some of the popular handicraft products from Puducherry include leather craft, textile pottery, handmade paper, wood carving, clay and terracotta, jewellery, jute craft, metalwork, candles and incense sticks. This range would now be retailed on the Snapdeal platform from May 2015.

As part of this partnership, Snapdeal will support the craftsmen with online cataloguing, while guiding them about refining their offerings with its data analytics tools. The company has also associated with other places like Tamil Nadu from South India to popularize and retail local craft items, while providing recognition and livelihood to the artisans from the region.
