E-commerce Snapdeal major is looking at changing the game. Moving away from focussing on gross merchandise value (GMV) as a growth parameter, it is now aiming to enable 20 million users to transact daily by 2020. Such a move would be a significant jump from the present over one million transacting users who are registered through Snapdeal’s ecosystem. This would increase the number of users.

This move is a good proxy measure of habit creation among its users and means that Snapdeal is moving its strategy from customer acquisition alone and becoming a part of the daily life of its users. GMV has been one of the metrics of measuring the success of the company but many have complained that it does not correctly indicate the revenues or profits of the company. Kunal Bahl, Co-founder and CEO, said that they were focussing on identifying and removing any points of friction which may impede the ‘seamless flow of users across its entire ecosystem’. Bahl has informed that investors have liked the idea and already the company’s valuation has grown by 30 per cent in the last round of funding.

International tech organisations such Facebook and Google have multiple platforms for its users which serve different use cases. Snapdeal’s strategy is in line with that of the big global players.
