American specialty retailer of children’s apparel and accessories, The Children's Place will open the doors to its debut store in India this August at the Orion Mall in Bangalore. The company will open four to five outlets in India this fiscal year across major metros like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.

The American kids’ wear chain based in New Jersey inked a partnership with Arvind Lifestyle Brands last year to enter India. The share price of Arvind touched all-time high after it announced tie-ups with popular North American names such as US retailer Gap, known for its jeans and T-shirts, and specialty retailer The Children’s Place.

As per a Technopak study, Indian apparel market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 9 percent, from 41 billion dollars (over Rs 26,200 crores) in 2013 to 102 billion dollars (over Rs 6,52,000 crores) in 2023. In 2013, the kidswear segment, at 8.3 billion dollars (over Rs 5,300 crores), alone contributed 20 percent of India’s entire apparel market. Given its higher growth rate, this share is expected to increase to 22 percent by 2023.
