Bhusattva goes global with khadi

Ahmedabad-based organic textile manufacturer Bhusattva has joined hands with an Italian firm Ora

WorldMandala, to promote khadi among Indians and Europeans. The fabric would be promoted to Indian and European consumers through the concept of ‘Ahimsa through Art’. With this venture Bhusattva also plans to unveil its khadi women’s wear collection soon.

Jainam Shah, Managing Director, Bhusattva Khadi says khadi has been our symbol of freedom during the struggle for Independence. Our khadi art is an experiment to contribute to the reinforcement of khadi as an instrument of freedom and social equity in today’s world. Khadi art is a new artistic production conceptualized in association with a Gujarat-based NGO Women’s Empowerment Corporation, which operates on the Sakhi Mandal model.

According to Sonia Deotto, Director of Ora WorldMandala, Director, the organization is working for promotion of ‘Ahimsa through Art’ and this endeavor is to promote entrepreneurship amongst women and various communities. Under this initiative they are promoting women folk from two different religious communities. As the work progresses, they intend to cover women from 12 religious communities. Bhusattva is also designing a new range of khadi men’s wear to promote this new concept.
