Tata Group’s retail arm Trent has posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 1.55 crores for the year

ended March 31, 2010. The company, which runs the lifestyle retail chain Westside and the book store Landmark, among others, had a consolidated net profit of Rs 1.03 crores in the year ended March 31. Westside is overwhelmingly a private label store known for its glittering and inviting façade and merchandize which is constantly replenished.

Landmark’s two Mumbai outlets, at Infiniti and Palladium, have drawn kudos for their customer-friendly and non-intrusive ambience. The range of books is wide and unusual and the prices very reasonable as compared to other book chains in the city.

However, the results for the year ended March 31, 2010, are not comparable with the corresponding period of the previous year on account of the transfer of its Star Bazaar business to its 100 per cent subsidiary Trent Hypermarket. Star Bazaar is a hypermarket retail chain of the company and sells beverages, health and beauty products, vegetables, fruits, dairy etc. During the year, the company’s consolidated total income stood at Rs 1,120.4 crores while it had Rs 850.8 crores in the previous fiscal.
