Abhishek Dutta opens exclusive store in Kolkata

Kolkata-based designer Abhishek Dutta opened doors to his new store at Garcha

Road in Kolkata. Spread over an area of 1,150 square foot, and designed by Dutta himself, the new store specializes in prêt and kids’ wear and full leather accessories like laptop bags. He has also tied up with Saakshi–costume jewellery brand that complement his designer dresses.

While the designer has already introduced a line of home furnishing products, store would also stock designer shoes in near future. In terms of retail expansion, Dutta is aiming to open three to four stores in cities like Hyderabad, Mumbai, Siliguri and Bhubaneswar, this fiscal year. His designs are retailed through several MBOs across India. Expanding footprint in the northern region will his focus next fiscal year.

A science graduate, Dutta received his fashion technology degree from Wigan & Leigh College, Kolkata. After receiving the most creative design award at his graduation show Entr'acte99, he went on to bag the award at the Smirnoff International Fashion Awards (SIFA) in 1999. He designed clothes for the Femina Miss India 2001 and launched his label internationally when he was invited as the only Indian designer to showcase at Bali fashion week in 2005, followed by Asia fashion week in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
