Low profile and avoiding the glamorous clichés of the fashion
industry with its penchant for non-stop partying, the designer duo of David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore were an enigma to all. They were never present in the celebrated and hyper fashion events in India where designers vie with each other for the spotlight. All that has changed as Abraham and Thakore exhibited their collection in a recent fashion show. Acknowledged for their originality for designer glad rags that are chic and wearable, the Abraham and Thakore team do not seek inspiration from the glitzy and often over the top to the point of garish Bollywood style of lehengas and cholis. They were very upbeat about their maiden appearance on the runway. According to them they have discovered that markets are changing and participating and showcasing a strong collection will only make buyers and retailers aware of their work and product. But this doesn’t mean they will do every show. They plan to do a show only when they have a collection that needs to be showcased.
Their latest autumn/winter 2010 collection is an interpretation of traditional clothing to create a fashion statement for an urban Indian woman. They have used industrial things like nickel studs, metal on a sari. As they feel the sari is as much at par with international fashion garments because of its versatility.
