The Kishore Biyani controlled Future Group, India’s largest retailer, is all set to expand in West Bengal

over the next three years. Bengal remains the major thrust area for expansion followed by Orissa and Jharkhand. Future is also planning a foray into Bihar soon, a state marked by a resurgence of political stability. The group’s flagship company, Pantaloon Retail, operates over 5 million sq. ft. through 400 stores in 40 cities. Besides, Big Bazaar their flagship hypermarket retail chain, aims to take the store count from the present 18 to 30 and Pantaloon stores from five to eight. Overall in the eastern region, the idea would be to expand the number of Big Bazaar stores from 30 to over 50 and Pantaloon stores from the present 7 to at least 14 in the next three years. Kolkata is also all set to get three more Pantaloon stores by the festive season in 2011.

Meanwhile, Big Bazaar is foreseeing a rise of around 10 per cent in sales of its fashion apparels during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. The hypermarket has been appointed as the authorized dealer of special merchandise for the World Cup 2011 by the ICC. The cricket merchandise particularly designed for men, women and children includes active dry tees, shorts, sports tees, track pants, sweatshirt, head bands and caps. Besides the usual sports range, a graphic range of merchandise bearing cricket-inspired messages and a soft toy range tagged as Stumpy, which is the official mascot of the ICC CWC 2011, is also on display at all Big Bazaar outlets. Future Group has gained a reputation as a reliable provider of tailor-made integrated business management and security systems. It offers complete business solutions using its own software and machines and also integrates its software and equipment into the client’s pre-existing company systems.
