Max, the value fashion brand from the Dubai-based Landmark group, has opened an 8,000 sq. ft.

store in Kolkata’s City Centre, New Town. The store brings consumers the latest fashion at an affordable price. Max plans to open a few more stores in eastern India in the near future. The Kolkata store is Max’s first in eastern India. With this store the chain hopes to grab a big slice of the eastern sector, which has remained an area of opportunity for the retail sector.

 

Max which is probably the largest value retailer in the country has about 26 exclusive stores covering a retail space of 2.2 lakh sq. ft. in cities like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. It now intends to expand its presence in Tier II and III cities. With the store in Kolkata, Max has expanded its presence in a big way. The chain has embarked on a growth plan to cash in on the value segment, an area in which it has few competitors. The company plans to open 60 stores by financial year 2011-2012. In 2009-10, the brand registered a turnover of Rs 185 crores. Max is known for providing edgy and contemporary fashion, covering a range of tastes and preferences.
