Myntra signs deal to sell Desigual's merchandise

In keeping with its recent trend of inking exclusive tie-ups with foreign

fashion brands, e-tail major Myntra has signed a deal with Spanish fashion label Desigual to sell the Barcelona-based brand's merchandise exclusively on its platform. So far, Desigual products were available in India through Myntra’s competitor, New Delhi-based Jabong. Founded in 1984 by Swiss designer Thomas Meyer, Desigual, which retails through more than 400 stores in over 100 countries, does not have physical stores in India.

Apart from selling apparels for both men and women, Desigual will also sell bags - through the Myntra website. Desigual’s designs and collections are present in more than 71 countries around the world. The company has brand stores in Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London, New York, Amsterdam, among others, as well as an extensive presence in the best shop windows in Japan, the UK, Hong Kong, Korea et al. During the last year, the company has opened stores in London, Russia, Paris, Los Angeles and Prague.

Myntra has also partnered with Harvard University to sell its exclusive apparel line in India from August this year. Through this partnership, Myntra will launch Harvard exclusively in India with a strong knits line of sweatshirts, Polos, tees, track suits in the first phase. In the second phase, Myntra will introduce a line of on-campus wear or smart casuals. The portal already has private original brands like Roadster, Dressberry, Kook n Keech, Mast & Harbour, Anouk and HRX launched in association with actor Hrithik Roshan.

After raising 50 million dollars (over Rs 300 crores) through a deal led by PremjiInvest, owned by Wipro Chairman Azim Premji, Myntra also plans to launch a marketplace in April to allow local stores and boutiques to sell their products on the platform.
