Shoppers Stop Q4 net profit down 46.6 percent

India’s oldest retail chain Shoppers Stop has reported a 46.60 percent decline

in its standalone net profit at Rs 8.1 crore for the fourth quarter ended March 31, 2014, due to higher expenses. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 15.17 crores in the corresponding quarter of 2012-13.

Income from operations in the period under review increased by Rs 727.9 crores or 18.10 percent from Rs 616.31 crores in the same quarter last fiscal year, the company said in a filing to the BSE. Overall March quarter expenses were at Rs 717.31 crores, an increase of 19.81 per cent from Rs 598.86 crores in the same quarter, previous fiscal year.

The company added two stores this quarter, taking its total store addition count to 13 in FY 2014. Being a house of premium national and international brands, the stores offer fashion brands such as US Polo, United Colors of Benetton in Apparel; Giorgio Armani, Burberry, Versace, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada in Fragrances; Tommy Hilfiger, Fossil, DKNY, Armani in Watches; Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Guess in sunglasses; to name a few.

In addition to the host of such international brands, Shoppers Stop offers a wide variety of merchandise across categories under its exclusive private brands such as Stop, Kashish, Life, Haute Curry, Elliza Donatein, inSense’, iJeanswear, Mario Zegnoti, and Vettorio Fratini, among others.
