Snapdeal acquires Doozton fashion shop

Delhi-based Jasper Infotech, which runs a leading online marketplace Snapdeal.com, has acquired

Doozton.com, a curated and socially-nurtured fashion shop that offers hand-picked fashion-finds and seeks to help people make better shopping decisions and discover fitting apparel. Doozton’s technology will enable personalised way of listing and suggesting fashion merchandise on Snapdeal.

With high-margin fashion business driving the growth of India’s e-tailing industry and leading players taking various initiatives to remain ahead in the competition, Snapdeal’s move is being viewed as an effort to move in the right direction. Doozton.com is popular because of it fashion & lifestyle product suggestions including clothes, shoes and accessories for men and women. Snapdeal too has been witnessing growth in its fashion categories over the last 12 months and company claims that acquisition of Doozton will further boost this growth.

Doozton was founded in March last year by IIT Roorkee alumnus Pushpendra Singh and it helps people find top shopping trends, along with information on what to wear and where to shop. The portal promises to bring a new approach to online shopping that is based on various occasions such as parties and weddings, instead of the conventional way of listing clothes based on various categories such as men/women and shirts/pants, etc.

Snapdeal’s move also comes at a time when its looking at achieving an annual sales (GMV) target of Rs 6,100 crores (1 billion dollars) within the next two-to-three months. While the platform has been witnessing growth across categories but according to the company, segments like electronics and apparel are doing extremely well compared to other categories. Launched in February 2010, Snapdeal has seen rapid growth in the last three years and claims to have over 20 million members.
