Uniqlo stores’ August 2012 sales in Japan, including

online sales, increased by 5.7 percent. Same-store sales increased by 2 percent year on year while sales at own stores increased by 5.4 percent.

Same-store sales rose year on year in August as persistent hot weather kept sales of summer garments firm throughout the month. The 672 same stores’ net sales were 102 percent as compared with 99.5 percent with the same period last year. In the same month net sales of 824 own stores were 105.4 percent compared to 104.1 percent in 2011. Net sales of own stores plus online sales in the same month were 105.7 percent compared to 104.1 percent for the same period last year.

Fast Retailing Co., Ltd. is a holding company. The specialty retailer Uniqlo is the group's mainstay operation. It operates its SPA (Specialty store retailer of Private label Apparel) business model, which spans product design, manufacture, distribution and retail. As of the end of May 2012, it operates with 849 stores in Japan and 275 stores in other markets overseas. The 37 stores that were unable to operate for one week or more following the March 2011 disaster have been removed from the same-store total from March 2011.
