LFW's Jabong Stage boosts young designers

In its endeavor to support and showcase the country’s upcoming fashion designers, leading e-commerce platform Jabong and Lakmé Fashion Week (LFW) came together to put forth the Jabong Stage (formerly known as Stage One). This served as the best platform for talented designers

to present their fresh and cutting- edge styles.


In fact, the Jabong Stage was the highlight at LFW on all five days of the extravaganza from March 12 to 16, 2014 in Mumbai. The platform hosted fashion shows, workshops, seminars, launches and much more. Now, select designer collections are available on Jabong.com enabling fashion enthusiasts from across the country and worldwide to wear creations right off the ramp.

Showcase
of young talent

Several young and emerging designers presented their creations during the five days. The USP of these designs was their wearability coupled with trendy designs and styles.

Ami Grewal, under her label Raven + Rose created a glamorous and edgy collection ‘On the Rocks’. Inspired by nature and the rush of city life, the silhouettes were feminine yet subtle and structured. It had short dresses, gowns, kaftans and cover ups. Luxurious fabrics like jersey and silk chiffons were tailored to perfection to complement and contour the body, embellished with large motifs, feathers, beads and sequins to give off a sophisticated tribal feel.

Designer Junelia Aguiar Chandler showcased a vivacious collection titled ‘Constructed’. The line was perfect for all occasions, the collection had dresses, trousers, coats, tops et al. Keeping in mind the opulent tone of the collection, fabrics like lace, crepe, kupro, satin, silk taffeta, Dupion silk, and the like were gorgeously embellished with 3D organza beads, Swarovski crystals, pearls and glass bead embroidery.

Little Shilpa presented ‘Vesper Bloom’ with over the top headgear and accessories. Her stand-out pieces were a melancholy of elements sourced from creepy dark fantasies. The silhouettes were pitch black and in sync with the accessories that underwent a transformation.

Debashri Samanta showcased a quirky, fun collection titled ‘Summer Houses’ using handloom fabrics such as Jamdani from West Bengal. It comprised of dresses, long tunics, extended rompers, shrugs, shorts, skirts and tops. Isha Kedia under her label ‘Klitché, showcased a trendy nature-meets-geometry inspired collection, sticking to simple silhouettes like dresses, trousers, tunics, skirts and gowns crafted in light fabrics like chiffon and organza. While Farah Sanjana’s collection, ‘The Flamboyance of Flamingos’ was a youthful celebration of warm tones, emulating a charming and feminine appeal. Inspired by the Flamingos from France the designer captured the calmness, grace, form and beauty and incorporated it in her collection.

Sayantan Sarkar showcased a high-end line of evening wear christened ‘A Motley Love’ having strong colours such as neon kissed pink, grey streaked purple, seductive black, Popsicle orange and fading aqua for a fresh appeal to the silhouettes in the form of kurti -dresses, tunics, jackets, tops and pants. And Veda Raheja showcased a refreshing borderline experimental collection christened ‘Tri-Faceted’ inspired by the famous works of self-taught Japanese Architect Tadao Ando.

Among others, ‘Love from India’ unveiled a ready-to-wear collection ‘All The Way’ for women, comprising of contemporary silhouettes that were high on style yet easy to breathe in, that gave it a realistic setting. The creative brains behind the label are the brand’s head designer and director Nidhi Agarwal and Director Jayesh Khatri did not restrict their range to garments alone, but also showed an exciting range of matching bags, shoes, scarves and jewellery.

Meanwhile, Jabong has inked a partnership deal with LFW for next four seasons, which will boost and support a fresh lot of designers. The e-tailer also launched British brand, Dorothy Perkins through a stylish show at LFW.
