Voonik, the online shopping platform has unveiled a new look and novel set of features. It’s also in the process of launching a mobile app. “We want to grow by the strength of the product and not by advertising. We refresh our collections on a daily bases and display thousands of styles every day,” asserts

Sujayath, CEO, Voonik.com.

Keeping in mind that the Indian ecommerce market is around 13 billion dollars (over Rs 80,700 crores)) and will quadruple in the next 5-6 years, Voonik has raised its seed round of Rs 2.5 crore and will look at getting

more investments after six months.

Products on offer

The platform offers a wide range of women’s apparels such as kurtis, tops, tunics, and dresses in the price bracket of Rs 500 to Rs 1,000. “We have created the world’s first personal shopping platform, powered by our own algorithms and data models. Our primary target are single Indian women, between 18 to 30 years. Most of them neither want to look traditional nor ultra-modern,” explains Sujayath. The site sells almost all brands sold by leading online e-tailers. It works on a marketplace model and does not have its own inventory. Customers get the same discounts that they get on other online stores.

What sets Voonik apart

“Our differentiation is on making the shopping personal. To overcome the touch-and-feel factor, we recommend only items with the right fit and fabric quality. Each brand has its own size conventions and we take care of that by suggesting the right size for a customer. We also check our customers on every purchase about the fabric quality and remove clothes that customers are not happy with,” opines Sujayath.

The platform does not have stores inside its web domain but lets users browse by the brands. It is tying up with vendors providing multiple brands rather than tying up with brands directly. Talking about the inspiration behind launching Voonik, Sujayath says, “I was frustrated that I could never get clothes that suit me. I moved to premium brands, tried trendy clothes, followed celebrities’ styles, but nothing worked. I need not be an electronic expert to buy the best gadget on Amazon which has bridged the gap between a geek and a common man for electronics. Similarly, why should I be a fashion expert to buy the best clothes? So Voonik bridges that gap between a fashionista and a common man. With that idea, we launched Voonik in April 2013. Me and co-founder Navaneeth have bootstrapped the venture with Rs 50 lakh,” he informs.
