Indian educational enterprise Ramaiah Group of Institutions has launched MSR Academia, a Bengaluru-based institute dedicated to fashion and creative education. Founded by Lakshmi Ramaiah, the institution aims to address evolving industry demands by combining global creative perspectives with traditional Indian craftsmanship.
The institute offers specialized programmes in Fashion Collection, Fashion Styling, Future Textiles & Innovation, and Indian Textiles & Luxury Craft. Located in Sadhashivnagar, the curriculum integrates sustainability, circular design, artificial intelligence workflows, 3D prototyping, and entrepreneurship into core modules rather than offering them as optional electives.
MSR Academia has established an international collaboration with Italian fashion institution Istituto di Moda Burgo, located in Milan. The partnership provides exchange opportunities, masterclasses led by international faculty, atelier visits, and industry internships to broaden students' practical and global exposure.
“We didn't want to build another fashion school that teaches students to simply create collections,” said Ramaiah. “We wanted to build an institution that prepares them for the realities of today's creative industry, where design intersects with technology, sustainability, entrepreneurship and craftsmanship.”
The founding of MSR Academia marks the initial expansion into creative education for the Ramaiah Group of Institutions, which was established by Sri M. S. Ramaiah in 1962 and operates 28 educational institutions across India.
Applications for the inaugural academic intake are open, with courses scheduled to commence in the first week of September.
