E-commerce giant Amazon has recently stated that its efforts in the Indian market are focused on bringing 100 million new users to shop online and helping small and medium businesses scale up and even go global. The brand, which is completing five years of operations in India, competes aggressively with home-grown player Flipkart in the burgeoning Indian e-commerce market. It has over three lakh sellers on its marketplace platform in India.

Amazon India head Amit Agarwal stated that the company's efforts are also directed towards strengthening its 'Prime' offering and helping Indian SMEs become global brands.

He further added that Amazon in India will continue to invest in building technology and infrastructure to make its services more accessible for customers, apart from ensuring that its platform is accessible to all.

The company has over 170 million products listed across hundreds of categories, which is double the selection from last year. Of these, 40 million are eligible as 'Prime' products.

Amazon has invested heavily in its India operations, which has contributed to a rise in global business losses, but the company has reported great progress in the country over the last five years. It has over 3 lakh sellers on its platform out of which, 32,000 Indian sellers are part of its Global Selling Programme.
