Woodland to launch wearable fitness gear

Footwear and apparel brand Woodland will soon be launching a range of wearable products for fitness oriented youth. It plans to launch fitness bands and watches to tap the growing market.
In addition it will also launch outdoor sports gear like a hands-free umbrella, eyewear, camping lights, trekking poles, waterproof bags, UV Block T-shirt, wet wick T-shirt, super shell shoes etc. The company is eyeing a total turnover of Rs 1,500 crores by the end of the current fiscal. Last fiscal it had made Rs 1,200 crores sales.
Woodland MD Harkirat Singh reasons that today’s youth is fitness conscious and want to know how much calories they have burnt. That’s where these fitness bands come into the picture. They can be used for doing adventure and even in normal day-to-day life they can be used to measure the extent of activities. The company has tied up with overseas technological partners for developing wearables and sports gear for Indian market. Woodland has tied up with partners in the US, Taiwan, China and Germany.
Woodland has about 600 stores in the country. A major portion of its sales comes from footwear and apparels while e-commerce contributes 15 per cent. Plans are afoot to open 50-60 outlets in the next fiscal.
