Designer Amalin Datta has opened a flagship store on Broad Street in Kolkata debuting his line for women titled ‘Amalin’.

The high-end prêt collection offers a blend of traditional and contemporary designs.

Taking inspiration from music, art, texture, color, architecture to nature, the designer imbibes his love for the genius of artisans, weavers and potters the world over into his designs. He uses fabrics like tassar, raw silk, khadi , jamewar , Banaras brocade to create ensembles.

Datta innovatively adapts traditional lines, colours and design elements to create a line of fashion clothing. He synthesizes print embroidery and dye to rework the magic of Indian aesthetics. The designer is known to spend time with his team of karigars to individually work out the dresses. Datta does not mass produce for chain stores, he designs only to meet individual demand. In the immediate future Datta plans to open another flagship store in Delhi and aims to get order from various other parts of the country.

Datta, son of muralist Alokemoy Datta and revivalist fashion designer Sharbari Datta, launched his debut line through a fashion show with models flaunting the rare synthesis of embroidery print and dye on silk coupled with abstract motifs in natural figurative touches.
