American fashion designer Rachel Roy is entering India

through Kitsch, a multi-designer store which will exclusively retail her clothes. To begin with, the store will start displaying Roy’s resort 2013 collection with youthful appeal with geometric shapes, mixing and matching of bright pop colours and laser cult embellishments.

Roy is a known name in American fashion circles. Her client list boasts of names like American first lady Michelle Obama, Diane Sawyer, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, Sharon Stone, Tyra Banks and Penelope Cruz among others. On the other hand, Kitsch houses few top luxury fashion and lifestyle brands from around the globe including Dolce & Gabbana, Stella McCartney, Diane Von Furstenberg, Alexander McQueen, Victoria Beckham, Catherine Malandrino and Herve Leger.

Interestingly, Roy is making an entry in the Indian market at a time when the designer wear market is predicted to grow at nearly 40 per cent. In fact, a 2012 Assocham report prophesised, the designer wear industry in India is likely to cross Rs 11,000 crores by 2020, riding a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of about 40 per cent. What is fuelling this growth is higher disposable incomes, emergence of the mall culture, changing sense of style, dressing and growing fashion consciousness among urban Indians.
