Delhi-based fashion designers Ashima and Leena Singh will design costumes for the opening
and closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games, scheduled from October 3 to October 14. The designer duo will give all participants a trendy look to reflect the rich tradition of the country. The Organizing Committee had asked them to create a design to compliment the event. Being one of the most prestigious sports events of the country, the duo assures that they will ensure a flamboyant and aesthetic design for the Games.Ashima-Leena is a globally recognized brand dedicated to the design, craftsmanship and embellishment of its charming amalgamation of periodic trends and modern style. It’s one of the most recognized brands of the country and has successfully retailed all over the world. The sisters-in-law launched their label in 1993. Ashima, who hails from the first batch of NIFT, is the creative head, while Leena, a lawyer by profession, is the marketing brain behind the brand.
With their combined strengths, their business growth has been phenomenal and they believe in borrowing inspiration from India, its rich heritage art and design. Their design philosophy strives to bring out the best in each woman through designs that are both traditional and contemporary. Their product range of Indian and Indo-western wear include a large assortment of fabrics, drapes, silhouettes, embroideries and colors. They were the first designers to join hands with retailers and have teamed up with jewelry designer Paayal Seth to set up India’s premier retail outlet -- Kaaya-The store for Women -- in New Delhi.
