Designer Gaurang Shah, known for his superb presentation of traditional weaves, would be showcasing a collection

inspired by Banarasi weaves for Indian Textile Day at the upcoming Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014 (LFW).

A collection titled ‘Chandbali’ will be a revival of antique odhnas archived from Akbarnama with khadi. His unique presentation of 18 ‘Chandbali’ will reflect the poetry of the Mughal culture and heritage romancing with the rich textiles and jewellery belonging to the dynasty. Though set in the era of Akbar, the couture range will have a blend of choices for the modern day bride.

The designs will have auspicious motifs like gowmata, chand-suraj, Buddha-pada with chand-bali inspired embroidery. Set in hues like surkh red, gulaabi pink, zard yellow, narangi orange and sabaz green. The designs will comprise of silhouettes like jama, achkan, aghrakha, sadri, shaluka, kalidaar, and lehenga.

For many seasons, a day is dedicated to celebrate Indian textiles at LFW. The forthcoming edition will have presentations by Anavila Sindhu Misra from Mumbai, Karishma Shahani Khan from Pune, Lalit Sengar from Ghaziabad, Sidharth Sinha and Suket Dhir from Delhi. Though the demand for such exclusive pieces is low at the moment, with each design taking months to get completed, handwoven and handcrafted fabrics as well as embroideries are in demand internationally.
