Bata India has been constantly expanding its retail footprint in India by opening over 60 stores

every year. The company currently has over 1,200 stores in India and is continuing to increase its store density in Tier II-III markets across the country. Continuing to expand its presence, Bata has launched its largest store in North Delhi. The store at City Centre Mall, Rohini offers a complete range of footwear and accessories, including handbags and belts. The company also operates a large non retail distribution network through its urban wholesale division and caters to millions of customers through over 30,000 dealers.

According to the MD of Bata India, Marcelo Villagran they have multiple brands to cater to the lifestyle needs of men, women and children. The Hush Puppies brand is targeted at the urban customer looking for elegant style, while Marie Claire is for the trendy and fashion-conscious women consumers. The comfort needs are fulfilled by Naturalizer, Scholl and Comfit, while outdoor footwear brand Weinbrenner caters to special needs. Bata’s smart looking new stores supported by a range of better quality products are aimed at offering a superior shopping experience to its customers.

Villagran says their objective is to make shoe shopping a pleasurable affair for consumers. The new format stores will, therefore, be larger than 4,000 sq. ft. to allow enough space to present consumers with the largest variety of footwear designs and styles in an easy to choose display, with the best-in-class service.

Incorporated as Bata Shoe Company in 1931, the company was set up initially as a small operation in Konnagar (near Kolkata) in 1932. The company went public in 1973 when it changed its name to Bata India Limited.
