The country’s largest footwear retailer Bata India continues its expansion drive and is planning to open
around 70 stores and renovate almost an equal number of outlets this year. The new stores will open in Tier II and III cities. The footwear retailer has been investing continuously over the past five years in retail. In 2009, 72 stores were opened and 40 were renovated. Four outlets of their premium brand Hush Puppies were also opened. Bata plans to grow this premium brand with an average of 10 stores a year.They have embarked on an ambitious expansion drive and in the near future they will have contemporary and exciting offerings for women and youth with designs and styles for a variety of moods and tastes. With an aim to capture a growing market share, and to spruce up its appeal, Bata will consider signing brand ambassadors. This is a step-up in strategy for the brand. The Power range of shoes will be refurbished with an enhanced sporting and athletic appeal. Bata will attempt a stronger link with various sporting activities and position itself as a brand with a distinct relevance in this field.
The Czech shoe-maker already occupies the mindspace of middle class India with its reliable, sturdy and value for money offerings. Over the decades Bata has formed a powerful bond with millions of aspiring consumers and has a wide and accessible network of retail outlets.
