Bangalore Fashion Week (BFW) kick-started yesterday as scheduled despite news

that it may not be able to take place since Phonographic Performance (PPL) obtained an HC order against Dream Merchants, the organisers of the week, for not getting ‘adequate licenses’ for playing music during the fashion shows. The Fashion Week has decided to go ahead without playing PPL administered music during the event following the HC ruling.

According to the organisers, since their music requirement during the gala is limited, they didn’t want to pay higher fees amounting to lakhs of rupees to PPL, instead they have paid to Novex Communication, which has 5-6 labels under it.

On the other hand, PPL would closely keep a watch on the event since it feels that it is impossible to have an event like Fashion Show without popular numbers like ‘Kolavari Di’ or ‘Ooh La La’, for which they hold rights. Meanwhile, Bangalore Fashion Week will see finest designers including renowned names like Ritu Beri presenting their authentic creations. The primary objective of BFW is to facilitate a dialogue between the fashion designers and buyers across the globe.
