In the second week of January this year, Big Bazaar store in Nagpur's Sitabuldi area

was revamped with the size of the food & beverages section doubling and the fashion segment sporting a jazzy look with new flooring, concealed lighting and stylish mannequins. Kishore Biyani is surely taking the business of fashion and its retail chain Big Bazaar seriously.

Big Bazaar, despite of being the oldest (its first store came up in 2001) and the largest (with 166 operational stores), has felt the need to get a makeover because it has realised that the advantages of becoming the first entrant don’t last for too long. With consumers looking for modern outlets, the chain has decided to undergo a refreshing change.

The necessity to change the existing format and processes was discussed when 166 store managers met Biyani and Sadashiv Nayak, CEO, Big Bazaar at an event called ‘Spark’ held in Jaipur last September. With a new strategy in place, the company shut some unviable stores and formatted the existing ones to match the interests of modern consumers.
