US apparel maker The Warnaco Group has struck a deal with Brand Marketing to sell Calvin Klein

underwear, jeans and accessories in India. The new venture will be 51 per cent owned by Warnaco. Apart from Calvin Klein, Brand Marketing India (BMI) is the holding company for French Connection in India. Within three years, Brand Marketing has opened over 100 points of sales across 13 cities. An ever expanding geographical and retail presence, coupled with an in-depth understanding of the Indian retail environment, positions BMI as the preferred partner for international brands looking to foray into India. Some of Warnaco’s license agreements with Calvin Klein have also been amended to add India to its licensed territories. Warnaco's president and CEO, Joe Gromek says India is expected to be a key driver of long term growth and they are excited to expand their direct participation, operations and revenues in this critical market.

Vijay Murjani, MD, BMI, moved to India in 2002 with a vision to be the leader in the international premium retail segment. In 2004, he spearheaded the launch of Tommy Hilfiger, which became the most successful premium lifestyle designer brand within two years of its launch in the country. Warnaco, which has a history dating back to 1874, has evolved into a global apparel leader which designs, sources, markets, licenses and distributes a broad line of intimate apparel, sportswear and swimwear worldwide.
