In order to generate more revenues, the 133-year-old
textile company Bombay Dyeing has drawn plans to venture into the e-commerce business by setting up an e-tailing site. Sources say the site will be launched soon and will offer bed and bath products. The site is expected to be up within couple of months and that the company is in the process of organizing its logistics set up for delivery purposes. Currently, Bombay Dyeing operates 350 EBO’s and also has a presence in around 2,000 MBO’s. With its e-tailing site, it expects to generate revenues worth Rs 3 crore in its first year of operation. Bombay Dyeing incurred a loss of Rs 27.5 crores on revenues of Rs 465 crores in the June quarter of fiscal 2012 due to higher expenses.Although Bombay Dyeing sells its bed and bath products through online sites such as Jabong.com, tradus.com and futurebazaar.com, it decided to differentiate itself by selling current fashions in the bed and bath section and sell fresh stocks. To be engaged with its customers, the site also plans to hold contests from time to time. However, the online store will not offer discounts on fresh stocks.
Meanwhile, Bombay Dyeing which opened its first overseas store in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, now plans to increase its presence globally. It plans to open more stores in West Asia and SAARC countries.
