Citizen Jewellery, the jewelry division of Japan’s Citizen Co, is looking to bring its brand

Citizen Pearl to India. Ganjam, a Bangalore-based retailer of premium jewelry, is helping the Japanese company study the Indian market and understand the sensibilities of the Indian consumer. Incidentally, Ganjam has been associated with Citizen Jewellery for more than a year now. It is one of the six international jewelry brands that Citizen Jewellery distributes in Japan. In fact, Ganjam has joined hands with Citizen Jewellery to foray into the Japanese market. The jewelry maker, whose products will be retailed through Citizen’s stores, will modify its designs to cater to local tastes.

Ganjam has four retail outlets in India — two in Bangalore and one each in Delhi and Mumbai. It’s planning to expand its chain in Chennai and Hyderabad. The $50 million Citizen Pearl brand is available across 1,000 retail outlets in Japan and is priced between $200 and $10,000. Citizen will decide what kind of pricing would suit the Indian market. Citizen Pearl will be available at Ganjam outlets in India. Ganjam, popular for its diamond jewelry, is aiming to enter the fashion markets of Italy and London in the next two to three years.
