Citizen Watches India plans to double its business in India in the next five years.

The Japanese watch brand is currently clocking annual sales of around Rs 60 crores. The brand has positioned itself in the affordable luxury watch segment which is valued at about Rs 4,000 crores now. The segment is growing at 15 per cent per annum and Citizen wants to exceed that growth. The growing Indian economy and the retail industry have helped the growth of international watch brands here. Currently Citizen Watches has approximately 450 retail outlets.

The company launched the Prestige Chronograph watch in Bangalore priced at Rs 19,500. The watch is a part of the Eco-Drive range that is powered by light. Citizen Watch Company, which is renowned for “the fusion of Technology and Beauty”, has been innovating with futuristic environment-friendly concepts such as Eco-Drive that constantly keeps running anytime and anywhere as long as there is light. In the 25th year since Citizen Watch Company began exhibiting at Basel World, it unveiled a truly next generation masterpiece.

The ‘Eco-Drive’ technology allows the watch user a carefree wear. The energy that drives Eco-Drive watch is supplied by a light cell made of silicon, which converts any type of light into electricity. This current is stored in a rechargeable storage cell, which serves the watch as an energy source. Thus, Citizen utilises suitable alternative to disposable batteries and the damage they pose to the environment.
