Co-optex makes profit after 13 years

First time in 13 years, Tamil Nadu state-owned handloom
textile marketer Co-optex earned Rs two crore profit during 2012-13. The Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Society (Co-optex) recorded a sale turnover of Rs 245 crores and made a profit of Rs two crore said its managing director U Sagayam.Sagayam says Co-optex, which has 203 showrooms, including around 70 outside Tamil Nadu, had set a sales target of Rs 400 crores for the current fiscal. To boost sales, new varieties would be launched and a fashion show would be held in Chennai on May 4, and other Indian cities.
The Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers' Co-operative Society, popularly called as Co-optex, established in 1935, has a long and rich tradition in handlooms and a history that dates back over 76 years, even before India’s Independence. The multi-hued Butterfly symbol is today synonymous with quality, durability and fair trade.
