Dabashish Poddar Plans Big for Birla Cotsyn

Dabashish Poddar the newly appointed CEO of Birla Cotsyn (India)

has his job cut out. He is working hard to take the company to the next stage of growth. Started in 1932 as a flagship of the Yash Birla Group, Birla Cotsyn has a sales network spanning India and abroad. The company has manufacturing operations in Khamgoan, Malkapur, Ghatanji and Dhulia. The spinning facility in Khamgoan produces cotton yarn and has a synthetic blended ring spun yarn manufacturing facility.

 

Going forward, Birla’s focus areas would be fabric, dyeing, finishing, garmenting and retailing. The group would be increasing yarn exports and is planning to expand its business in South America and Europe.

Among Poddar’s targets is to set up a processing unit, wind mill, setting up a garmenting unit for larger customer base; setting up of a retail chain, taking over or acquisition of a brand for premium segment; possible venture into home textiles and made-ups; augmenting spinning and weaving capacity to make it of international standard. The company is doing a feasibility study for venturing into retail space. In 2011, they may enter the retail business as well. On the whole he aims to create a large mega corporation of Rs 10 billion by 2014.
