Digjam eyes entry into RMG segment

After spending years working with major fashion brands in the US

and Europe, Gujarat-based textile manufacturer, Digjam is looking at foraying into the readymade garments market. Its aim is to tap the growing readymade garment segment in India.

Currently, the company’s readymade garments export to Europe is around 45 per cent of its annual five million metre production. India is the second largest market after the US. Recently, Digjam inaugurated its sixth exclusive showroom in Hyderabad and 35th in India. And C Bhasker, MD of Digjam has hinted at the company evaluating the readymade garment market-space.

The branded readymade apparel market in India is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15 per cent. The specialised fabric maker has reported revenues of Rs 180.87 crores in the 2011-12 and expects a little over Rs 200 crores this year. The company is also suffering due to the European sovereign debt crisis.

Digjam, an S K Birla Group Company, began nearly 60 years ago in Jamnagar, Gujarat. Since then, it has been catering to the ever-growing demands of the clothing and fashion industry, in the domestic as well as the international markets. In recent years, it restructured its business portfolio to focus as a textile company manufacturing and marketing fabrics and ready-to-wear clothing under its own brands. Company’s product range is available at its exclusive showrooms and over 4,000 other retail outlets across the country.
