Taking a cue from increasing interest of female shoppers
in online retail, e-commerce platforms are creating exclusive perks for women. This includes women-only platforms, virtual trial rooms, celebrity endorsements and easy return policies to make them loyal visitors to the portals. The e-commerce boom is certainly boosting hopes of e-retailers and as they find more number of women logging on and placing orders, they are planning various strategies to cash in on this new found opportunity. The market for non-store retailing is estimated at $3.2 billion (Rs 17,830 crores), registering a growth of 23 per cent annually. Even though currently men account for 60 per cent of the buys, the women’s business is growing significantly.E-shopping portals such as Fashionandyou, 99labels, Zovi, Myntra and Koovs are paying special attention to display, variety of apparel choices for women, heavy discounts and easy delivery and payment option since the average ticket size for an online women’s purchase ranges from Rs 800-Rs 1,000.
Since women prefer making smaller purchases to begin with as they are sceptical about not getting the same product in hand as they viewed online, bringing them back to shopping is what makes the job challenging. And portals are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to make these women return to checking the merchandise and shopping regularly.
