Designer Gaurang Shah, who recently showcased his eco-friendly designs of saris

and off-shouldered dresses at the Lakme India Fashion Week would present a collection of unique designs in khadi, at the Berlin Fashion Week to be held between July 3 to 8 2012. Though not a formally trained designer, Shah’s designs have wowed audiences for years. At the Berlin Fashion Week 21 outfits and three saris would be part of the Lavera section that highlights eco-friendly fashion. He is working with 250 weavers to revive khadi and has used fine khadi in 80 to 100 counts to make fabrics that can easily blend. Vibrant floral blooms, birds, butterflies and foliage themes intricately woven in myriad hues into the pieces of garments rule the collection.

His saris are Jamdani weaves with flowers, leaves and birds with varying tonal quality in colours that gradually move from pastels to dark tones. The three-shuttle technique helped get different colours in each border. Off-shoulder flowy dresses with anarkali cuts, layered tunics and short tops teamed up with dhoti-style pants will also be part of his collection for Berlin. And the khadi jumpsuit with floral patterns deserves special mention.

Twice a year Berlin becomes an international location for fashion and lifestyle enthusiasts. During the Berlin Fashion Week, fashion enthusiasts, buyers, trade experts and the media from across the world, interact freely at shows and awards ceremonies.
