Gaurav Mahajan, COO, Westside has been appointed COO of Landmark and Head-International Expansion-Westside.
Mahajan has been with Westside business since its inception and has been instrumental in shaping its success over the years, bringing it to 80 stores in over 42 cities. In 2008, he was nominated by the Tatas for executive education at the Harvard Business School, which was followed by his appointment as COO.Landmark, the books and music chain set up in 1987 was later bought by Trent in 2005. Though it initially expanded well, the e-commerce boom stopped its further growth. It now runs 13 stores and also has online presence through landmarkonthenet.com with the product portfolio now dominated by toys and stationery. Mahajan is expected to revive the Landmark business with a new identity as well as expansion into more categories, geographies and also the e-commerce space.
He would also be looking into expansion of Westside beyond Indian boundaries. To begin with, it is expected to make a foray into the Middle East and South Asia. Himanshu Chakrawarti, earlier the Landmark chain COO has now moved to the Mobile Store as its CEO.
