Raw materials like cotton and indigo dyes, which are a major part of denim industry

have an India connection because a large part of these are exported to various global denim brands from Indian mills like Arvind and others. Going a step forward to revive the Indian roots of denim, Arvind Mills has approached designer Rajesh Pratap Singh to create a designer denim collection. And the designer, keen to work out a collection with fabric like denim and that too with Arvind Mills was obviously thrilled with the opportunity. It has been his dream to work with denim and denim dyed with indigo in particular. Now, Singh has experimented with khadi and hand-spun fabrics and indigo dyes to come up with interesting construction of fabrics, something that Arvind specialises in. Of course, the focus was to express his creativity through the use of ancient, India-invented indigo dyed denim fabric.

Singh’s interest in research-based projects that also give him an insight into the actual fabric construction and how best it can be utilised to create novel design concepts has led to him developing this unique signature style. His clean and simple designs showcase his keenness in detailing and understanding of international silhouettes.

His collection is currently being displayed at The Collective till September 15, 2012. Singh expects it to be as wearable as the best denims brands that exist across the globe.
